Steering lock not working

Drove the Jeep into work this morning and noticed that when I turned it off, I was unable to make the wheel lock into place like normal.

Had the Jeep 5 years now and never had this issue. I could turn the wheel either way, full turns (although it was a little hard with the 33's) and it wouldn't lock.

I did some searching through the boards and found some information about the steering lock mechanism. I've been using a Grant wheel for the past 4 years, so I've pulled the wheel a few times.

My question is.... Is it possible for the steering wheel lock just to break for no "real" reason? I didn't tamper with it... I don't think anyone was in the Jeep that would've tried breaking it (as in, all my stuff is still there)... And can anyone tell me what is involved in fixing it? I know that most people will go to remove it, but I like the extra piece of "security" knowing the the wheel is locked in place.

If I'm remembering correctly(it's been a couple years sense I had the wheel off), the wheel lock is a prety simple setup. I can only think of a couple reasons why it wouldn't work.
The lock pin may be stuck in the colom, or the spring may have broken. Either of which would prevent the pin from engaging the locking ring. If it were me, I'd just pull the wheel(should be fairly easy with the Grant), and check everything.
