steering box issues

Hi All,

i just finished installing my new AGR steering box. Now the issue, I took it for a test drive and when I try to turn right it's like I have manual steering. it becomes extremly hard to steer. I did not install their heavy duty pump is this the issue. Everything else was replaced. Also, it seems to have more back and forth play then my stock box. Thoughts? It a 95 wrangler 4.o Thanks

did you bleed it correctly? sounds like it needs bleeding to me...
as for the extra play, i dunno, but would assume there is an adjustment on the ram?
maybe 1 issue solved anyways.....

try this.....
with the front end on jackstands, start the motor and turn the wheel lock to lock, while the p/s pump cap is off......should be able to hear the strain if there are air bubbles in it....
when the straining stops, its normally bled.
weird that it is just when you turn right though....
can you find out what the ram needs to turn, as far as pressure goes? then can try and find out what the stock p/s pump puts out.
also, is it any easier when the rpm's are higher? being belt driven, the p/s pump should pump more as the rpm's increase....
did the ram move freely before the install?

keep us posted!

When I had it up on the jack, When I turned to the left and hit the end the pump did not make any sound. When I went all the way to the right it would squeal. Could this mean it is not bleed on the pump side? Also, there is just a reqular setup no ram. Before I changed the box everything turned fine both directions.

i'd say a bleeding issue then.......it should turn the same both ways, with no squeeling!
sorry, i thaught you meant the ram, so its just an upgraded gearbox then??

Yes it's just the box. When I was bleeding the pump the fluid seemed to go up and down as I would turn it. I think when I turned it left it went down and right it went up. Thoughts?

air in the new pump would do that....its trying to evacuate the air, forcing the level to go up......
i have always had good luck just moving lock to lock till it went quiet..
may wanna do a google on bleeding the setup you have? or search on pirate4x4.com

Left lena trucking, I just wanted to say thanks. I had my friend come over and help and you seem to have hit the nail on the head. We pulled the main line adn put it back on and it seems to have freed it up. I still have a little "drag" when I turn right but it muc smother now. Do you think the air bubble will work itself out?
