few hours yesterday, couple today, not too bad, test drove it earlier, and man!! what a dofferance, steering is nice and solid now indicating the flex was there waaaaaaay before the frame cracked.. but anyway..
anyone using an aftermarket steering box brace? does it do its job or does anyone have any suggestions on securing the box to prevent future issues here??
Yep, I believe I have the MORE one. Bolts into exisiting hole on the pass. side frame. It seems like it helps. They are pretty pricey for what you get.
Upsidedown welding sucks, huh!
I actually did something pretty similar when I stretched my front axle foward 6".
oh yah , the vertical grade 5 bolts (on the bottom) are bolted to 1/2" grade 8 nuts that are welded to 1"x2"x 1/2 plate center drilled around each hole and then welded inside of the new lower frame rail, this way theres no chance of the nuts ever being pulled out, pulling on, deforming the lower frame, or breaking loose and spinning free in there, the load is spread out
has anyone seen or know of a brace that attaches to the output shaft of the steering box instead of the box itself?? attaching right on top of the pitman arm?
i would imagine thats the part that sees the most stress and causes a lever action against the rest of the box
