starting the 4.0 swap this weekend

ok so with the unexpected death of the BA 10/5 im going to go ahead and do the 4.0 swap along with the ax-15 transmission. so heres where the questions come in. the engine is out of an 89 cherokee. its going into an 88 wrangler. i dont have the time to get the wiring diagrams and go through the wires myself since i need this thing running asap. so i was wondering if there was anyone that could lend a hand and tell me which wires i hook up to what just to get this thing running again. if gauges dont work its fine most of mine dont work as it is anyways.

thanks in advanced
joe

You may want to ask this in the XJ section. That 4.0 is NOT the same 4.0 in YJ's, it is a RENIX 4.0. Very different electrical system and fuel system.

Here is a good RENIX reference thread: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/helpful-renix-links-563149/

I did a 4 cyl to 4.0 swap a while back and in my research i was strongly advised to go with the 91+ 4.0 as the renix motor is less powerfull, less reliable and a much more difficult swap.

ok from there i have two questions.

1. is there anyway i can get the wiring list still as this engine was free and i still am spending every waking moment to try and get the old engine pulled and new transmission from the junkyard and getting everything prepped?

2. if i find the wiring harness and intake manifold w/ everything i need will it just bolt onto the 89 head without issues?

sorry if i seem lazy i just really need to geet this done quick and right

If your 88 has the 258, I would keep it. You could allways put a 4.0 head on it and efi, I wouldn't give up cubes. Yeah, for sure go with the 91 and up 4.0. Lots of parts availability and a better system. I love my old school 4.2, however the carb sucks, but thats an easy fix. The 2.5 isn't a bad engine if you give it some gear.

the 4.2 is failing smog and i will need to go through a referee station if i put a different carb on it i believe. and if i go through the referee station i rather just do it with fuel injection. and i want to use this engine because i have it already
