I think you are thinking of the pickup/cam sensor in the distributor.

No, that is the pickup that sends the signal to the Ignition Control Module that breaks the ground on the Coil primary windings that causes a collapse of the magnetic field that creates the spark in the secondary windings in the coil that produces the spark that goes out the top of the coil to the center connector on the distributor cap that jumps to the adjacent conductor at that moment of the rotor to the conductor in the cap that leads via a sparkplug wire to a sparkplug.

Look up Motorcraft Duraspark Ignition system. That is what sparks a 90 model Jeep Wrangler 4.2 ignition. And the ICM on these systems is a 5" X 5" aluminum box that is mounted under the washer bottle.

I called autozone to order the icm. They ask i can bring in the old one to have it tested. I took it in today. They tested it and it fail. They going to test the new one tomorrow and im taking the old one back to retest just in case they wired it wrong. But i am hoping that it is true about the old one failing and is causing the problem. Ill find out tomorrow and hopefully have the jeep running

i went to pick up the icm. already installed, started her up. rpm lowered down after warm and she hasn't stalled. turn her off waited 5 mins started her up still running great. tried it a couple more times and still hasn't died . i still have not test driven her. got the kids home and dont want to take chances at this time til tomorrow when my wife is at home taking care of the kids. but as of now she is working without stalling in the driveway.
