Springs and shocks with ford 8.8

Hey guys, I'm upgrading my axles with a set I will pick up this weekend. I'm going 8.8 with 4.88 in the rear and a D30 with 4.88 and 1 ton steering in the front. I currently have an RC 4" lift and its crap. The shocks don't even allow for full flex. I want to get new springs and shocks, and I have 1.5" boomerang shackles. Zone leafs look okay and I heard they are sistered with BDS? And what size shock would go good? I don't have anything to help me measeure full flex. Suggestions please

If you are doing all this work with the axles and steering, have you considered going SOA at the same time? This would cause other issues that would need to be solved, but you might want to consider it.

Personally, I don't like 1.5" shackles - they are a bit long for my taste. I would remove them, and increase the spring lift (or go SOA), if you need the extra clearance.

Your local 4x4 shop should be able to help you do full flex - ramp or forklift.

If you absolutely don't have the means to articulate the suspension, and don't care if they are the perfect length, then just order some out of a catalog for your aprroximate lift size. http://www.quadratec.com/products/16070_204.htm

There has to be somewhere around that you can flex it out to measure.

I've considered going SOA, I've got a drive shaft on order and have an SYE. Also the new axle i'm getting has a 1 ton steering setup on it already. I just really want to see what I can do SUA. I am also considering ditching those shackles and going with a 5" spring. I just dumped a lot of money into axles, drive shaft, and a few other things so 5" springs will have to wait. Is a high steering kit necessary for and SOA? I don't know a whole lot about that

Are you using the shocks that came with the 4" zone lift?

Me too, just don't know what size to get. I am leaning towards the 'RE extreme 4" springs with listen shocks and a 1" day star BL. With some luck i should clear 35's

Hope the axles work out great for you! I'd say measure for the shocks and get bilsteins. Seems to be thd popular opinion most times.

hope your drive shaft works out too, being that you are changing suspension and axle it would worry me not to measure it all at ride height before ordering.

(not that it can't be changed)

I am in the process of changing shock also, Here is what I came up with for my YJ (3.5" Black Diamond lift w/ 1.250" Booms, 35" MTR).

I have not bought the shocks yet, but my plans are for the Skyjacker M95.

I cross referenced the size shocks I have now (Skyjacker Hydros)

Hydros:_______________ M95:

Front 7059 ____________ Front M9561
Col. 16.56"____________ Col. 17.42"
Ext. 28.75" ____________ Ext. 30.46"

Rear 7088 _____________ Rear M9558
Col. 14.82" ____________ Col. 14.82"
Ext. 24.84" ____________ Ext. 24.84"

For their listing for 4" lift is the 7059/7088 and M9559/M9558
For their listing for 5-6" is the 7061/7088 and M9561/M9558

1.25" booms would be pretty long wouldn't they? I would say a 1" body lift with a smaller shackle would be preferred. I clear 35" MTR's with 4" leafs, 3/8" booms and some body trimming. It may not look like the biggest jeep on the planet, but the tires clear and it keeps it low.
