Spring Over Axle Conversion Question

Has anyone ever done one of these before? I'm about to do an SOA Conversion on my 94' YJ. Can anyone give me any helpful hints, tips, things to look out for or be careful with? Or is there anyone who is located in the Hampton Roads Virginia area that would be willign to give me a hand for a few beers and burgers?

Research, research, research.

Search the forums as SOA conversions have been discussed ad nauseum.

- Be ready to spend some time & money... do it right
- Plan on an antiwrap bar on the rear axle
- Plan on spending some cash on a proper steering system
- Set the rear pinion angle with the full weight on the settled springs
- Watch your shock length so they don't bottom out
- Going SOA implies bigger tires. Your braking will be diminished unless you modify the brake system
- SYE and DS are needed
- Be sure it's still be inspectable per your states inspection requirements (if you care)

Read every article you can find. Then make a big list of everything you need to buy. Then once you have that figured out make a detailed list of how you want to go about it, a game plan of some sort. Oh and lots of PB

Like hoki said, make a list of everything you need and then buy it all at the same time. The thing that held me up the most was waiting on parts or having to order new parts due to unexpected surprises that I didn't know needed to be addressed beforehand. I just finished with my SOA conversion on my '94 and it turned out good so far. It's getting regeared as we speak, but when I get it back I'll post up some pics. Go to the FAQ section on the 2nd page and click on the SOA parts list link that Tomb Raider posted. There's a few good lists by members here that I pulled stuff from and got ideas from. Good luck.

See the little triangle by peoples usernames that lists your year and make. It has all that info.
