"Special" Editions?

I've been looking around at jeeps and have seen a lot of difference editions out there

Renegade
Sahara
Rio Grande

and probably a few others i can't remember off hand i'm curious about what are the differences between all these, and their strong points and weak points

Thanks in advance

From the YJ Stock Specs page at the top:

Trim Levels

Base: also referred to as "S"&"SE" at different points in the model run; first few years the back seat and rear bumperettes were optional, some years the 6cyl engine was an option, other years only the 4cyl was available in the "Base" model

Laredo: Chrome grille, bumpers, and trim, hard top and hard full doors, tinted windows, faux leather interior, body color fender flares and alloy wheels

Islander: which included "Sunset" Islander graphics and distinct body colors including teal and bright yellow with matching wheel flares

Sport: which featured "sport" graphics and, beginning in 1991, a 4.0L 6 cylinder engine

Sahara: which came standard with the 4.0l 242cid engine, offered the most available options, including body color fender flares, matching side steps and alloy wheels. More saharas seem to have come with an automatic transmission and air conditioning than any other trim package.

Renegade: featured a similar option package as Sahara, but added premium wheels, deluxe interior group as well as oversized "Renegade" wheel flares and body cladding

Rio Grande: available in champagne gold, moss green and white, with a southwest themed interior trim package, only the 4cyl engine was available, model was offered in the last two years of the YJ model run.

Besides motor differences(slightly) they are the same thing underneith, just trim packages.

Wikipedia's Jeep wrangler page has alot of info on the renegade:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Wrangler

Our Wiki has close to the same info as the rest.

There's the Chili Pepper, too! Although nobody can seem to find any information on it.

That is one of over 50 dealer packages. Usually a sticker, an interior perk or a color option.

Funny you should mention that. I was just thinking about what a lifted Renagade would look like. I've never been a fan of all that plastic but its surprising how much a lift does for astehtics(sp) Are there any pics around?

I know of at least 2 lifted Rens in the YJ pic thread but I don't feel like searching the ENTIRE thing LOL.

Page 11 of the "How will my YJ look with..." has a black Renegade with about a 2" lift. Also the wrangler renegade registry has lots of pics.
In my opinion they need bigger tires to fill up the flares, and the lift helps make the tires look proportional and functional.
Some say they plastic gets in the way when wheeling. I would agree but only the bottom of the front fenders. But they look even better with trimmed fenders.
Good luck in your search.

For Camp Jeep 2000 in the World of Jeep tent, Jeep had a TJ with a 5.9 V8, painted in a fade from Hot Red to silver, a red-tented windshield, Tabasco graphics, and, behind the rear seat, was a NOS bottle in the shape and painted like a Tabasco bottle! I have pics of it somewhere, dangit!!By the way, I've seen a couple of Rio Grande's with the 4.0, but not many. In '94 year, especially, Jeep had a 4.0 shortage, and there was a backlog of Wranglers, Cherokees, and Grands waiting on the 4.0, they didn't expect it to be so popular!

What, no mention of the all important......

Barbie edition? YES, they did make one in either the late 70's or early 80's, very collectable with the daisies painted on the hood.....
