Soft top doors loose at top?

Hey everyone. Just got my Jeep (93 Sahara). I drove it halfway across the conuntry and while driving on the highway I had soft top on. The top of the doors were very loose (i.e the tops were really blowing loose). One night while parked at a hotel it rained pretty bad. In the morning it wasn't wet inside, so when parked it does not rain in, but when driving on highway, the tops really shake pretty bad when driving. Can anyone offer some help to correct this? Thanks!!

welcome to owning a jeep. the soft tops no matter what you do will always be like that, and eventually rain in on you while driving!

welcome to the forum

congrats on the yj what kind of soft top? factory or aftermarket check the spreader bars in the back for tightness, and where the frame meets the front window, also check all the screws and or rivits that hold the frame together, and all the fastners, clips, velcro, things to that nature...

The weird thing is that I thought I hear a minor bang, almost like a fart sound coming out of my Jeep, but I'm not sure what it was. It has never happened before the glue incident.

indeed, and don't sweat the upper doors..mine have a free play of about 3 or 4 inches back and forth at highway speed.

Yeah, dont sweat the doors man, mine is also a best top, and the doors normally have about 3 or 4 inches of travel on the freeway. It was really scarry driving down the freeway on the way to go wheelin last time. had a crosswind that was at least 50MPH, combine that with going 60 on the freeway. i was surpised that those things didnt snap off and fly away!

Burntoutfireguy, my thoughts EXACTLY! Glad to see I'm not alone out there and this seems to be just a Jeep thing.

yep, it sure is. ive had quite a few worries about my soft top when freeway driving. but, its best not to worry. ive seen my soft top "bubbling up" what looked to be way too much for it to stay. but its been fine. the only repair that ive had to do thats soft top related was to the channel on top of the windshield. the screws were getting pulled out of there. i just went and got some bigger self tapping screws and put them in there. problem solved.

A few new jeep owner tips that im sure you will find many times on this site:
1. When it rains/snows outside, it does inside too
2. find out as much as possible about your rig, it will come in handy
3. always participate in the jeep wave
4. do it right the first time, or you WILL do it again
5. Expect to dump plenty of money into your rig. both necessary, and unnecessary.
6. Get a complete set of Torx bits, you WILL need them
7. Learn to either live with the torx heads, or swap em out for hex heads (you'll find out)
8. HAVE FUN!

I must be the lucky one because I have no play (none noticeable anyway) at the top of my 1/2 upper soft doors. I've never gotten wet driving during rain either. Original factory top also. Perhaps there is a way to tighten the top fit.
