so i got a weird noise...

lately when I have been driving around I noticed a noise my YJ makes. whenever I let off the gas to shift or coast my jeep makes a whistle type noise until I come to a stop then it goes away, or as soon as I get back on the gas the whistling goes away.. and its not like its doing it constantly and im not hearing it over the jeep, It is only while off the gas. anyone ever had this issue?

Does it make the noise only while moving, or is it related to engine speed? First thought was vacuum but if it's only while moving that would not be it. Is it more a whistle or a whine?

If only when moving check your front hub assemblies or ujoints. Jack the front tires up and spin them by hand and listen for the noise.

Interesting. Does it change pitch with rpms or road speed? What if you put it into neutral and coast? Does it seem to be coming from the engine compartment, underneath, right side ect?

Sounded almost something air related. Maybe vacuum

Stays pretty much same pitch, doesn't really change with RPM's or speed, it does it when in neutral an at a coast, and maybe from the rear of the jeep but hard to tell, could be from the front just as well. The noise stops for the most park when I am on the throttle...

Okay so it sounds like it might be the seal or something in my SYE housing. I was rolling the jeep around without it running and it was making a kinda squealing noise or something... Could it be the rubber for the seal as the shaft is turning? What can I do to fix this? I'm lost...
