Haven't done a snorkel, but some general tips any time you're cutting into the body:

First, make sure you use masking tape and completely cover the area you're going to be cutting. Easier to mark where you're going to be cutting (measure two or three times before cutting!), and leaves a much cleaner edge.

Use a spring-loaded center punch to get your drill bit started, that way it won't walk all over the place. Start with a small drill bit to make a pilot hole. Then use a hole saw or big step bit instead of a jigsaw or anything like that - makes for much smoother and rounder holes.

Speaking of holes, make sure the other side where you're cutting is clear - wouldn't want to be cutting in to your washer bottle, electrical harness, or anything like that.

When you're done cutting, make sure to paint the exposed raw metal edges so it won't rust. Borrowed fingernail polish would even work in a pinch.

I did a H1 style on mine. Works great and don't get in the way of wheeling in the bush.
Ran the hose down to a spot I could punch it through the firewall and then up to the factory airbox. I went with the Donaldson cap as it keeps most of the dust out of the system before it gets to the air cleaner. Air cleaner element lasts much longer than if it was just a plain cap on it.

I went through the fender since I got a used ARB snorkel. The first cut is the most nerve racking, after that its a cake walk

That looks sweet as hell, is it hard to cut the airbox for the mod? Since you've put it on have you done any deep water stuff?

There was no mods or cutting into the airbox itself , just removed the stock elbow infront that originally directed the air from under the headlight, siliconed all the connections and this intake tubing from autozone slipped right on.

As you can see, my engine bay is coved in mud. My airbox used to fill up with mud every outing and I would change my filter atleast once a month. Now its stays dry and I havent had to change my filter since I installed it

You don't have to mod the air box? All the other air boxes I've seen have the air inlet on the side right where snorkel enters the body

Yeah yours is the first I've seen like that. Did it come in the kit that way or did you have to mod that?

No kit, I just bought the ARB snorkel off craigslist for $75, sourced their template online and bought intake tubing, that length of exhaust pipe, hose clamps and silicone from autozone putting me at around $120 total.

FYI, I did have to relocate the windshield washer fluid bottle since thats directly in the way but theres only 2 wires that you have to extend and add in one length of windshield washer fluid hose.

I also saw a part at the store you could use to cut and seal into the side of the air box like all the kits do but I didnt feel like that was necessary, though it would look cleaner.

Okay I see, the ARB kit off quadratec comes with everything, but did you do any other water proofing besides the snorkel?

Yeah, everything here

You can see in my engine bay pic a large coiled up hose for my vents on the firewall towards the right of the motor
