Slow starting, 4.2L with Carter

I see in another post slow starting on the FI engines can be the CPS.. What might cause it on a carbed 4.2L. Timing? Anything else?

Nobody knows what might cause a carbed engine to take awhile to start?

That makes sense...maybe a slight leak. That would cause the fuel pump to take awhile to get enough fuel back into the carb for starting....Now, how to check that....

HI,
My Carter BBD carb's float bowl would drain if sat for a day to two. It took maybe 5 sec of cranking for it to start again. But it was very consistent. It always started. I did not consider it a problem.

i had a slow starting problem and it turned out to be the starter itself. if i were you i would pull it out and get it tested. Starters go all the time on our jeeps.
