sigh... more clutch related issues... i hope?
sigh.. where to begin, in the now 2 years I've had this jeep, i've had the tranmission out close to 5 times...
first the slave, disc.. tranny, slave.. etc etc. ANYWAYS, after a swap AX-15 from a peugot this last month, i was hoping it would be fine. wake up this morning to a screetching sound whenever the clutch in engaged... what could this be? something metal vs metal trying to spin i guess.. most likely the slave pressure plate grinding on the clutch disc? not sure.... help

When you swapped the tranny and clutch parts did you have the flywheel resurfaced? Or at least put a dial indicator on it to look for run-out. Misalignment could be eating your components.

Last month I had my tranny out 3 times, I feel your pain.
During my clutch job (that turned into a mini overhaul and tranny swap) I had my flywheel resurfaced at a nearby auto parts store that has a little machine shop. I'm no expert but the Haynes manual and people who know recommended I do this. It took a lot of effort to remove and reinstall the flywheel bolts, this would have been a lot easier with air tools. Anyways, since reinstalling everything last month all has been good and I'd say it's worth doing. I can't help you with the screeching noise besides saying to double check that everything is attached properly and aligned. My new clutch squealed or chirped a little bit when engaging for the first few days, not loud enough to make me think there was something wrong though.

You should always resurface the flywheel .. remove the polished surface and ridges. The small amount of hassle getting it off and away to machining versus having to do the whole job again down the road is a no-brainer. Mine was the original clutch .. 17 years old with 200,00 kms on it.
I've just done mine .. now freshly machined .. along with a complete clutch kit (pilot bearing, slave, pressure and driven plate). Your squealing sounds like either the throw out bearing running dry or the bearing has siezed and is rubbing on the pressure plate fingers .. time to have it apart again .. 6th time lucky ?? ![]()
