Should the starter work when....

Should the starter work when you connect the positive wire and short wire on the starter via a Jump Lead...? I am trying to diagnose my starting issues....which is nothing happens when I turn the key....(but I am able to push and pop the clutch to start it)

when you short the positive on the solenoid to the positive on the starter, yes it should turn over...
disconnect the ignition first though, or make sure the key is off....
safer to disconnect the ignition imo, safety first!
if that doesnt make the starter turn over, then the starter is fried...or the starter wires going to the battery
