I was wondering if you could purchase a shorter steering colum or modify the factory one to be shorter?

I dont think you can unless you have excellent fabrication skills -- why would you want to shorten it? Are you lowering the Jeep?! (joking).
Usually, when you do a body lift it can change the angle of things like the steering shaft and it may be tough getting it to be long enough to hook back up.
