She's finally home.

Yup, got my YJ here at my house finally. In the garage she was meant to be in.

For the tech.

I pulled the hydro lines off the ram. Its time to get to the bottom of no steering.

Is that wood on the windshield frame? Nothing like fixing stuff with a couple of 2x4s.

That doesn't even look like a factory frame. I don't believe there is even glass in there.

*EDIT* Great looking YJ man. That thing's a beast!

I work on my junk on the trailer in the street in front of my parent's house. I'm jealous.

Is that a 2x8 single end ram? Full hydro? I run the same ram and had a problem with steering loss, turned out to be a broken piston. Take the ram apart (it is dirt simple) and check the piston.

Yup, I've laid in the dirt for 15 years now. Finally got a house with the *required* garage.

Yes, its a 2x8 single end ram, full hydro.

Thank you for posting up., those pics are great. I kinda figured it was the ram, but I haven't had the time to work on my pile.

Really dig your jeep. You've got me contemplating XJ's all around this winter when I have some more wrench time.

Well, I finally got enuf time from work to take the ram apart. There wasn't any little broken pieces like I had hoped.

Everything seems to be in place, and in working order.

I think I'm going to have another high pressure line made.

Doug

dude make the lines yourself with field service JIC fittings. IMO crimp on hydraulic ends are unnecessary in the 4WD world. Our systems are nowhere near enough pressure to burst a line. I plumbed my own full hydro system in about 45 minutes and I even made another wheeler a hydro assist hose on the trail with a hacksaw and two channel locks.

What exactly is wrong with your steering?

Where are you buying those fittings, and hose from? That looks like a good deal just making your own lines.

My steering worked great for two years, then it just died. My steering wheel will turn a million times in either direction. I figured it was the steering valve, so a buddy that maintains 48 forklifts was able to "get" me another one. Still the same. So two valves that do the same thing.

Then my pump was getting red hot. There was no way you could touch it.

I put a brand new pump on, still nothing. Now with the cylinder looking good I'm just grabbin' at straws. The lines are the last thing in the system. Allthough I did take the high pressure line off, point it in a "safe" direction, and my Dad cranked it over. Fluid shot about 25 foot.

There isn't much involved with this system, but the money is tight obviously.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

I got the fittings and hose from PSC but you can get them at any hydraulics supply store.

Disconnect the ram lines and cycle the wheel with the hoses in a bucket and the engine off. Does fluid come out of the hoses when you steer it?

What pump are you using? What are you using for a resevior/cooler and what size are your hoses?

Stock jeep pump.

Stock jeep reservior.

3000 psi, 3/8" lines.

I'll have to try that bucket trick. Before I took the lines off. Fluid was somewhat circulating, but I'm not sure how much pressure. I also now have a extra old tranny cooler, I'm going to plumb into the mix. I figured it would go inbetween the reservior, and the steering valve. I figured the more fluid the better. Allthough it did work flawlessly for over two years as it was.
