Do you know any good Canadian sites??
Hey Drunc ..

Check my homepage .. I have a small load of links there (just short of 200 links so far) .. but a great place to start (and I think I have said this before) is at Canadian 4 Wheel Drive magazine .. Al (editor) has lists of things happening all over Canada there ..

BTW: Freak4Jeeps .. I did a check on the price of a 3" body lift from National 4 WheelDrive centers (located in Ontario) .. and it came up with a price tag of ThreeHundred SeventyFive dollars .. then we would need to add shipping across the country, 7% GST (and because I am in Alberta, no PST, but the boys in all the other provinces would be paying between 7% and 9% PST on top of that as well).

Drunc .. are there any factors that you can think of as well that increase our costs over our American bretheren .. and any other Canadian's can put in their $0.02 as well .. I don't need to be the only one sharing the bad news about prices here ..

Thanks NaeKid,

Border costs and taxes are what really kills ya...
I haven't ordered any jeep parts from the states, but I bought my paintball equipment from Detroit (If I remember correctly)...it was 2 years ago, but I think it cost me around $300 with almost $100 shipping and taxes and duty
and thats just UPS ground....

National 4wd is about an hour drive for me to their store....it's the closest one that I've found that's not in the heart of Toronto

Even the prices I've found at Canadian retailers are super high cause it's all shipped from the states

Plus, if we get stuff from the states, it all depends on the day the order gets charged....and how well our doller is doing

I bought a vent upgrade from 4wheel drive hardware in the states and it cost $12 american. The shipping was a wopping $26 plus I paid the exchange then the GST then the PST which both combined are %15 so imagine the price we pay over here.

I think we should start our own company and build lift kits etc would come cheaper to us

Meister .. Lift kits are nothing but one companies springs combined with another companies shocks and .. and .. and ..

If we can find a spring manufacturer here in Canada (we have 2 in Calgary, a couple that I know of in Edmonton .. ) that can supply huge amounts of springs to spec (everytime), combine with shocks .. and then do the R & D required to make sure it all works together .. package it up in a nice colourfull box with logos .. we would be laughing.

I personally don't have the money to backup such an operation .. so I started a research group with a couple other wheelers to test and try different things, different designs and make them available.

Our 'net page has a lot of work needed to bring it to the point of being "professional" .. but its a beginning, as I spend huge amounts of time with tools in my hands every weekend.

thats a good way to go. I would like to be able to build lift kits etc cause I have a place where they can make them in pretty big quantities but I am fearful that the whole thing would flop and loose money. Here I do nat have many people that go wheeling and I'm quite new to jeeping also but I like to play in my rig and modify stuff.

yeah same here
unfortunately the demand in Canada is nothing but a frction of the States...you'd probably end up losing money unless you get the word out and people start buying across the border the other way...prices would be cheaper for them, so it could be a possibility

I think this is work towards a "General Discussion" topic not about Canadian lift kit manufacturing. No offense.......I lived in Canada for around 9 years (Winnipeg) and I basically grew up there but it sounds like this discussion should be in the general side of the house.

sorry for changing the topic around but canadians on this forum are rare so we drift off topic sometimes. But I do not see what is wrong with this there is no rule that says we have to stick to the subject or we shouldn't say anything.

well don't really see anything that says exactly what you said but I don't want to get in an argument with you so that you can prove your point and try to be the boss. I thinks that the question was answered in this post a long time ago and that we just fell into another question that concerns us thats it

You are so right .. I know those rules very well .. seein' as I was the one who wrote them, and I have to enforce them.

I believe I said that off-topic conversations are allowed to a certain point .. but its not to be pushed .. this message is not pushing it yet. How do I know when a message is pushing the border .. its one of those things that I know it when I see it .. but I have at times found myself slapping my own fingers for "talking too much".

As far as staying on topic, YJ_90 did ask about prices in his second post .. clarification was required for the huge difference in what we have to pay here in Canada vs the prices in the States. The little bit of "extra talk" was a secondary discussion that sort of parallel'd the first one.
