Service Manual

I should get a service manual for my YJ. I was looking at the Haynes ones.

Do you guys have any preferences on these? I want something useful; in the past some brands I have purchased for specific vehicles left a lot to be desired.

I mostly have old Chilton's in my shop. Are Haynes user friendly and informative?

See ya,

Pat

Both are good. I have both and find that using both covers things a little better. If you want to use one, either is fine.

Buy a factory service manual (either on a CD, internet download, or a paper copy) and be done with it. Haynes and Chiltons are just WAYYYYYYY to generic in the fact that they try to cover WAYYYYY to many years/models in one book, and are just watered down to begin with. To me Haynes and Chiltons are like reading Cliff Notes instead of the actual book.

I think I might have a digital copy of an FSM on my home computer. I will try to find it later today and I can send it your way. If you go to the following link, they have an FSM for a 1993 YJ. Link Here

Download here for free.

The YJ and XJ manual were combined. So download and save the "1993 XJ FSM".

Throw the association a few bucks as a thanks. Enjoy the pleasure of a great manual.

Thanks for the responses. Does the 1993 electronic manuals cover the 1990? Sorry; I am a noob at this still.

See ya,

Pat

Interesting - Any idea why 91 and 92 are not listed on that site? Do you think the 93 version is close enough?

I'd say yeah.

I used a 2000 FSM for my 99 all the time.

Maybe the person who had these other manuals didn't have the 91 and 92.

Very cool link, thank you. Why does it only cover 1993 Yjs?

I'm guessing that is just the only one they had to make available.

No, the 1993 cant be used for the 1990. Still, get the FSM. My FSM is way better then the Chilton or Haynes.

I can't seem to get the one that is linked to download; if it isn't specific to 90' it probably isn't worth the effort.

Where is the best place to pick up a paper copy of a FSM? I looked on ebay and wasn't sure what I was looking for. There appear to be several different manuals for each year. I am guessing electrical, chasis . . . . . .

See ya,

Pat

My FSM has paid for itself many many times over...it is greasy and bent up from being under and around the jeep with me, but has saved my butt sooo many times. Bought mine online somewhere a week after I bought the jeep.
