Ended up rebuilding my throttle body during this Thanksgiving break. Here is the thread where I posted the process if anyone is interested in reading through
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/8.../#post12564886

Replaced the MAP, CTS, and IAC components as well in hope of fixing my idle issues. These components helped the Jeep run better overall but the rough idle still continues.. here are the pics from that

New parts

Old MAP and CTS sensor, both look like they've seen better days

Replaced by the new. Like I said previously, these did help out but didn't get rid of my idle problem completely

I also found out that my fuel injector was leaking so I replaced that, which removed by "hard start" issue when it was cold and after long runs on the highway. This is a pic from the TB rebuild that shows the new injector.

Since my idle was still not smooth i delved into the situation a little deeper and found this.. I'd say my EGR was at little worse for wear

Replaced by the new one from Advance

And finally after all the replaced sensors and TB rebuild.. the EGR is what fixed my idle for good. This could not have come any soon enough as I changed the oil in my daily driver this past weekend and came up with this..

A nice layer of Dexcool antifreeze on top of my old oil.. blown head gasket. The weird part is the car still runs good, the seal between an oil and an antifreeze passage must have blew. The Jeep will now be moved to daily driver status until I can find another car to replace the POS cavalier.

Still trying to get my idle situation under control since the stumble popped back up after the EGR, I started a thread to pick Jeepforum's brain

Your CTS should be about 185 ohms at operating temp. Look into that. I've heard that the dealer parts are more accurate than the parts store replacements.

Trouble with the CTS is, that the computer uses it to tell when the engine is warmed up enough to trim the fuel and spark. It won't read the O2 sensor until it thinks its up to 190 deg or so... which is not happening here. Therefore its running too rich when it warm etc. If you want to try it, go to radio shack and get a 180-ohm power resistor for a couple bucks in the parts section. Stick that into the herness terminals instead of the CTS. It'll "fake" the computer into thinking the jeep is warmed up and normal. Only cost $2 to try it and see if any different in running. If it is different, then you know for sure about the CTS.

It's getting warmer now here in Pittsburgh so it's back to fixing the wrangler. Still trying to get the idle right and tested the fuel pressure today

I want to subscribe to this build since you and I are dealing with the same beast. I finally found a tub I think I can work with from the local YJ scrap yard guy. My fun will finally start in a couple weeks.

I hope I don't have to go that route lol. I have some issues with the floors but replacement patch panels should cover everything that's rusted through.

Last I heard he hasn't done anything because of how cold its been. I think he narrowed it down to the fuel return line or fuel regulator. Only time will tell.....

For those of you who have been following my rough idle thread, I decided to pop on a new fuel pressure regulator to fix the high fuel pressure. Should be in by Tuesday morning

I figured I'd post an update since its been about a month. I'm still fighting my rough idle but narrowed It down to a mechanical problem. I'm gonna be ripping the interior apart soon to weld in new floor pans shortly I'm thinking Bed liner instead of puttin the carpet back in too.

In other news.. I ended up trading my old cavalier for this

image-2525539953.jpg

I think I came out pretty good on the deal lol. 93 4.0l auto with 131000 miles. This'll be an additional project on the side to my 89. it's a little rough but nothing too crazy. Body lift's gotta go though

Sweet find. I think you'll have fun with it. I'm still curious to find out what is causing the rough idle.
