Update time.. So I ended up getting a 90* die grinder with an arbor attachment to cut my floor out. It worked like a charm!

image-1164497449.jpg

It was pretty time consuming though, took me 2 hours to cut it out with waiting for my compressor to catch up. Getting tired of waiting on that thing

I also found out that the panel is spot welded to these braces. I had no idea these were there

image-2210886241.jpg

I laid the cut out panel inside the new one to use as a template.

image-4071797245.jpg

I finished tracing it out and couldn't take the heat anymore. I'll cut this out tomorrow after a half day of work and start to weld it in!

Put on hold. I am in the middle of moving. Trying to move all the tools and jeep stuff in the garage is going to be a week long effort by itself. It's been all work and no play so far this year.

So after vacations and business travel got in the way, I told myself I'd get this jeep ready for Bedliner by Friday.

Today's progress..

image-2834810951.jpg

All welded in except for a section I cut too wide for the replacement panel (I'll patch that w part of the old panel)

And this because I thought the pic looked cool. Taken while cleaning up at sundown

That looks like my floor. Just got the replacement panel in. Nice job on the welds. I don't think I good enough to butt weld like you did. Probably do an overlap.

Thanks man. I actually did a quarter inch overlap on about half of the panel though. I guess the picture is just making it look better than it is, which I'll take lol

I'll shoot you a pic of mine. Driver almost completely gone. Even some soft spots by seat brackets and hole by the rollbar. Luckily I have a 3x4 piece of sheet metal and a formed floor pan. Guess that's what you get for $1600.

Haha I know what you mean. My driver side is terrible. Passenger still bad but not good by any means. Mine was a product of road salt

Today's activities..

Got the panel gap filled. Not perfect but it'll do

image-4002362144.jpg

Next task was the floor under the driver seat

image-2171427313.jpg

I marked lines where the seat holes were so I could line them back up when welding in the new panel

image-979632176.jpg

Cut out

image-1673558765.jpg

image-1078423145.jpg

Started vacuuming out most of the rust chips and start gettin more and more of these lol

image-3267464342.jpg

From here (seat support channel looking towards the rear of the jeep)

image-4280833236.jpg

I can't reach them to get them out so I'll have to wait until I cut out the Rollbar foot area to get at them with the vacuum. I'm just amazed they were in there because it's next to impossible for something to get in that area

Has anyone repaired the broken plate that has the rear bolt welded to it? I've seen a lot of floor replacements on here but not so much for that bracket. I'll most likely cut it out and weld in a new nut and plate. Here's the bracket

That looks great! 2 week and my move will be done and I can start to play with the YJ. I wish you lived a little closer. I sure could use your help with the welding. That repair looks awesome!

Thanks a lot Que. I'm still learning the ropes with welding, but I'll get the hang of it sooner or later. Do you have a build thread on here somewhere?

No. I will start one when the move is over on a couple weeks. It's been a long year for me.
