Rusted Out Frame Rails

My frame rails are completely rusted through in the rear section. Any options other than a full frame replace which I cannot even come close to affording? Jeep is not drivable in it's current state.

Thanks.

My Step Brother went to DaveyGeeps and bought rear sections from him it took about an hr to install and was 175 shipped to Maryland for the pair. You will need new Spring bushings and bushing tubes for the inserts.

Maybe you could trade it in for a better one? My local Ford dealer said I could get $4500 gov't incentive cause my YJ gets such crappy MPG but Ford didn't have anything I wanted.

Make your own frame plates or purchase some pre-cut plates. They are welded to the rusty section to repair/reinforce the rusty areas.

Yea, he said only on new but Ford didn't have anything I wanted. I didn't know if the Jeep dealer would do the same thing.

^All stealerships are supposed to be in on the government voucher. If they sell new cars you can do it. There supposed to scrap the trade-ins. I wonder if you can buy it back for cheaper and sell it off yourself. I'd gladly take a donor YJ with a rusty frame. I have the exact opposite: good frame, rusty body.

Are you referring to the Gerard Jeep Wraps? They look like they might work.

Yes I am referring to the Gerard Jeep wraps in the pics was grinding the old rotted frame out and then starting to weld on the wrap. I would do it to mine if necessary

If you have some time on your hands you can do what I did and replace just the back section of your frame. You'll need hand tools, a grinding wheel, and a welder or a welding buddy. The project will take you two weekends at least, but you'll be darn happy with the results.

Cut frame, holes for welding, make sleeve.

Attach new frame.

Weld holes and around the edge.

Paint it all.

Cost of the project was:

$100 for the frame section
$100 to the welding buddy
$5 for a pair of grinding wheels
$5 for new hardware for the rear hitch
$0 for paint Dad had
36 or so hours of work

I recently tried to purchase some a cylinder head from Davey's, but was advised that they no longer ship heavy items.

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/my-94-rebuild-thread-747404/

i have not updated the thread in awhile, jeep is back together for the most part with a road test under its belt, just a few loose ends with wiring to finish up...
