Rusted frame..can it be fixed/welded?

I have a 94 Wrangler, the frame is rusted ( one part driver side frame rail ) I took it to auto shop, the guy said he could weld it no problem w/out hacking frame in half,he said he could weld a piece to it and it would be fine, I think it looks pretty rough. My question : is this typical for these years like other parts , does anyone have suggestions if they have done it etc. What guge steel would be fine. Thanks !!

it can be fixed with plates.. there is some threads around here somewhere with examples. As long as he preps it well and such it will be fine. Its typical. Also its hard to really judge anything without some pics.

Post up some pics of the frame section in question. Many of us, myself included, have fixed our frames by cutting out the bad and replacing with good.
