Rubicon Express 4 inch lift. YJ BOUNCY

Hi guys, I've had my lift kit on for almost a year...and the ride is still horrible...very bouncy...

I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to help the ride?

I have TSL radials as tires...33s.

What can I do to lighten up the ride?

Thanks,
-Tom

Mmm, shocks may be part of it. I can't remember exactly how it works, but maybe you need to get a softer load-in type thing. Valved to squish a little softer in and out, not so rigid.

Just a thought.

Try swapping on a buddies tires and make sure you arn't having a problem with un balanced swapers. Even the radial TSL can be awfull hard to keep balanced.

Tire air pressure may have something to do with it. I run around 25 to 28lbs in my pro comps, but your tires may be a little stiffer in the side walls. Also get yourself a set of greasable shackles. The shackles made mine ride a lot better.

get used to it, it has leaf springs, a lift, and it's a jeep.

some good points here. check the torque on your shackle bolts. on these you should use nylock nuts as leaving them a little looser is usually better so the shackles won't bind up as the suspension moves. Also check your tire balance and try running a slightly lower pressure. With big off-road tires usually running up to the recomended pressure on the street is too much. my Xterrains say to run at 35PSI but its way to stiff so I run them at 28 PSI on the street

Hmm, were they worth the cash you threw down for them?

I'm considering replacing my 4yo kit shocks from my Black Diamond lift with these Bilstein 5100's ... BUT, if they are only marginally better I would rather keep 300 bucks in my wallet as extra padding for my buns?

Yes the 5150`s are worth it. I use 4 on the Jeep and 6 on the tow rig.

Money well spent IMHO>

Shackles should be greaseables, set up with Nylocks at 20-25 lbs. 45-50 is WAY to tight.

Tire pressure at around 20-25 lbs. Experiment with different pressures. Balance has nothing to do with ride stiffness. Ride quality/vibration yes.

I had the same problem with mine with a 2" BDS lift in it. I just installed 1" shackles and changed the bushings and that made a big difference. The ride is not nearly as bouncy anymore.

I had procomp ES9000's on mine. Rode horrible! I put BDS 5500's on and it is much, much better. Oh, and with TSL's..... I got the jeep with them on. I didn't check the tire pressure for a while, they clearly weren't squatting at all. They were at 15psi(did i mention they weren't squatting?). I thought I'd improve my gas mileage by putting 35psi in them. Wow! Rough ride! I backed them down to 20 the first day and left them there. If you have those tires and you run even close to recommended PSI, it doesn't matter what shocks/suspension you have, you're in for a rough ride!
