rough ride after 4" rubicon express lift

I installed a rubicon express 4" lift and its been about a month now. I thought the ride would get better when the new lift worn in, but it has not at all. The ride is horrible! is anyone elses jeep that bad after their lift? Also, would greasables shackles make the ride better?

Thanks

I can't say about the lift but I can say greasable shackles improved my ride alot!

What size tires are you running and how much air pressure do you run in them? I have the same lift and run 35's at about 25 psi, I think it rides well all things considered.

I notice more of the bumps, but the ride isn't that bad. Check your psi in your tire.

Yes, also check the tightness of the shackle bolts as well as the frame eye bolts. I run shackle bolts at ~50 ft/lbs and frame bolts 95ish.

A taller spring is going to make the ride a little rougher over a stock spring. Thats what you sacrifice to stuff bigger meats under your fenders. If you wanted a smooth ride with a moderate lift you should have gotten 2" BDS or 2.5" OME.

That being said, maybe going to a gas charged shock instead of hydrolic might help.

the shocks that come with that kit suck balls. i had that on my old YJ, and compared to the 4.5" XD kit I have now, it rode horribly. i've also heard their regular springs are made by the same ppl that make the pro-comp springs

you can try changing out shocks, but i think your stuck with what you got for the most part. you might be able to smooth it out a little but those springs are pretty hard. i had a friend who installed a set on his jeep. i wouldn't be able to drive that jeep everyday for sure. and this is coming from somebody running AALs in a cherokee, and daily drives a Yj with 10 inches of lift and 36s.

his springs have gotten a little smother after a year, but id still consider them pretty harsh. me and friend just installed a 4 inch RC kit, and i think it rides much better. i dont think the RE kit flexes very well either because of the stiffness of the springs

Re Std 4"

I have the same lift and it road harsh.
The stock shackles are really not made for that
type of spring bushing.
Buy some greasable aftermarket shackles and only
tighten them to 50-60 ft lbs and you will notice
a big difference.
Also take off the F&R track bars.

rough ride after 4" rubicon express lift

i own a 94 yj, 4 in. RE lift, OE shackles, doetsch tech shocks. i have absolutley NO FLEX and when i hit a bump i can get air. RE tech said to raise the truck up off the ground and loosen all spring bolts, set it back down and snug everything back up. i tried this and it didn't help. i then tried removing the third leaf spring from the bottom( the one that is really thick) and all that did was drop me an inch. no improvement in flex. im now considering the skyjacker 6in. mono-leaf kit

I had a whole different animal but with the same issue. I bought my 95'
and it had a 2.5" Pro Comp lift. I thought my teeth would bounce out of my head! Removed the front and rear trac bars and it seemed to help some. Then installed a set of currie booms and you would not believe how much better it rides now! Think I can air up the tires a bit now and get a little better mileage! LOL! Try some greaseable booms!

Remove the track bars and see how it rides.

Edit: I just saw you have an XJ. Guess that wont work.
