My buddy has a fully built roll cage out of his cj7 he is will to hand over to me for 100 bucks. Would it work in my yj or am I out of luck?

Anything will work with enough brute force and ignorance.

Although, the CJ7 and YJ bodies are almost identical, I dont' see why it wouldn't.

Well you can always take yours out and give his a try.
Just a hint for you,
When tightening them up, do crisscrosses like you would a tire, otherwise it may not fit.

Well I removed my cage with ease surprise surprise, we all know how bad those bolts can be. Especially after not moving for 22 years! Got the cage in with just me and my buddy it was a pain with only 2 guys! Everything sits fine. I have yet to bolt it down. I need to run and get some grade 8 bolts first. Here are some pictures of how it looks. Let me know what you think.

Glad you got ur bolts out. Mine was a pain. I run a CJ 7 Roll-Bar in my 93. Only Mod I had to make was the front horizontal bolts; the two inside bolt (I think, its been a long time) I had to notch the roll bar about a quarter inch towards the center of the jeep to get the bolts in; everything else lined right up.

A Rancher told me that back home he can drive his Jeep all day and not get off his own property; I said "I've got a Jeep like that too"!

Now I need to get my 5 points put in and I should be set with the cage. I was extremely lucky with this find I was looking forever and dont have the geometry skills to do it so I'm stoked. Brings a totally mean look to the jeep compared to the sport bar. But now my full doors dont close because my lower bar not sure what I will do next
