Roll bar swap

I have an 87 with the angled style factory roll bar. My kids are getting to old for their car seats and they require a shoulder strap seatbelt. I was wondering if anybody has put a role cage from a 92-95 in an older YJ. Are the mounts pretty much the same or is there a lot of work to it?

Any help would be appreciated

Justin

I think it is just personal preference. Newer one started in '92. Personally I like the 92+ bar.

It all comes down to personal preference but many do the swap to the "family bar('92-'95)" from the "sport bar('87-'91)" due to the protection of the kiddies. Me for example LOL. With the sport bar my daughters high back seat when facing forward stuck almost 12" past the down bars putting her head a full 8" past the bars. NOT GOOD IMHO.

And if you go to the newer style, why not get 2 pieces of 1 3/4" .120 dom tube, have them bent and welded in? And also a crossbar for the kiddies? That would seem cheaper and easier to me.

I went through the same dilema. The changing of rollbars is fairly easy with minor mods. Hopefully your body is not rusted underneath the rollbar mounts like mine was.
