rocker protection

I took off my factory steps from my YJ awhile ago and now i have like 5 holes were the step used to be. does any one know if they sell some kind of adhesive plastic thats black that looks like rocker guards. i dont feel like spending $200 for real rocker guards but i dont like the holes and they r starting to rust. i know they make a chrome one but i hate chrome. if someone could send a link it would be great. Thanks again

just go buy some of that skid grip stuff (that was what my younger brother called it on the top of his skate board), and run it from fender well to fender well. I think you can pick this stuff up at any hardware store, and it is like tape and will stick on its own.

Clean the surface really good of all impurities first then this stuff should stick really well.

Also if you would like you could run it all the way to the bottom of your door and then fold it in over the top of the door step to add some traction and protection to your door entry.

I just painted some 4 inch angle iron black, marked where the holes were and bolted it on. It gives a little mor eprotection too. One day you could weld on some steps.

The iron comes bent @ a right angle like that. It is called angle iron. It is measured like 5"x3"x0.25." You would call it "five-by-three quarter wall angle," If you went to the steel supply place.

You will likley have to go to a steel supply house. I don't figure it will cost you a bunch. I would look @ something like 1x3 angle for asthetic purposes.

the amount of work is the same for 1x3 or 5x3, might as well go with the full size and get some protection out of. that's my thinking anyway

mine are just mounted to the body. what I did was to get a piece of 2" wide x 3/16" thick piece of flat bar. I clamped the rock rail to the body with the piece of flat bar clamped to the inside. then I drilled a series of 3/8" holes through the rock rail, the body, and the piece of flat bar. then i pulled the rock rail back down and finished welding the steps on, painted the door sill area behind where the rock rail mounts with truck bed liner (rust prevention) then bolted the rock rail up with grade 8 3/8" bolts and hardware. the bolts go through the rock rail, the body, and the flat bar. makes for a good strong mount.

Be careful... If the adhesive on that griptape is as strong as the stuff that's on skateboarsd it will take off paint when you pull it off.
