Rocker Panel Guards

Hello, I'm thinking about getting one of those Warn Rocker Panel Guards for my YJ. I am a bit concerned that if I have the guards installed, will it cause rust on the body a few years down the road? If so, any tips or advice on how to prevent that from happening?

M

I think the only real solution to preventing rust is to move to the desert southwest.
You could mark where they will fit then mask off everything else and spray rust proofing before you install the Panel Guards.

use grinder with the angry sanding pad $7 to completly grind body rocker pannel to bare metal, primer it with rustollium primer, then buy the best rustollium paint they have in the store specifically formulated to prevent rust, tape off before grinding/belt sanding so u don't feather the good paint... Retape, prime, paint.... Let dry at least 24 hrs between coats and 48 hours before installing the guards to prevent cracking which would allow water penetretion below rustollium...

This is 100% method to rust proof, 3 years in Florida with not an ounce of rust yet, inside, between, or out.

I did something similar when i installed mine, minus the grinding to bare metal part.

All i did was clean it up real good, then tape off where the rocker guard was going to mount and sprayed the area with undercoating.

That's not a bad idea. What if I just clean the body and spray it with rustollium and silicone the edge all around it?

Me too, under the rockers and the rear corners.
