If you scroll down this thread a little, you'll find a couple posts from Joe Dillard where he explained the ins-n-outs of his steering setup for me. thanks, json

whoa when i get back from mexico in two days ill show you mine. do not run this steering setup i bought this setup up from them for my yj and i had one heimjoint shear off and the other pull completley out of the tierod. i had this steering setup for maybe 9 months when this happened and i had only about three wheeling trips on it and nothing hard core. the steering broke on an easy section that my stock steering had gone throu with banging on rocks unscathed. please wait for me to get you pics of it before you buy. i went to go try and use there warranty or lack therof and they wouldnt have it. needless to say the shop that i went throu to buy it cut rockkrawler out of the line. if you can hold off two days ill get them to you.

I fixed it for you.

Anyone who thinks otherwise has either never actually tried it and is just regurgitating false information they read on the internet, or is using cheap econo junk like what RK uses. I have broken 6 or 7 "1 ton" drag link ends in my steering system. Since switching to heims I have not broken a single joint nor have any developed any slop. I have never seen the RK steering system but if their suspension systems are any indicator of quality (and I use that term very loosey with RK), then it is complete garbage. |

1 Ton is correct in the sense thaqt heim joints are not inherently bad or anything like that. In many ways they are better than TREs. They are simply non-standard (no OEM manufacturer uses them, even in the most expensive vehicles) and require more general maintenance than TREs. Proven fact. For the average person on this forum, TREs are more than sufficient, are more readily available if something grenades, cost less and are more maintenance free. A 1 ton TRE is a proven, reliable, cost effective upgrade.
