What is the ideal rim width for a 33"x12.5?

10 in wide for better tread wear, 8 to 8.5 for bead retention when aired down.

Personally, I like the 8". You gain an inch or so more ground clearance, it's easier to stuff w/out destroying fenders, and of course the bead thingy.

I totally agree, I am running stock 7 inch rims with my 31's rigt now for the same reasons. The 8 inch wide rims will be added this summer.
