~ Reverse Shackle Kit ~
Anybody used one of these?
I have a 2.5" Rancho suspension lift already. I want to get some bigger tires under it, so I need another 2 inches. The kit involves moving the shackles on the front springs to the rear of the spring, and mounting a fixed spring mount to the front of the ftont spring. The rear just get's a longer shackle. The pitman arm will have to be replaced. The Jeep geek at 4wheelparts told me it will ride smoother because the axle will now swing up and back, instead of up and forward. Makes geometric sense. My concern is stability on the freeway and on side slopes. Shackles, IMHO, should be kept as short as possible to maintain lateral stability. I know 2 inches isnt' that much, but.... So, again, has anybody heard of this setup? Worst case scenario, I replace my 2.5 inch lift with a 4 inch suspension lift. A body might be an option also. Wanting to put some fat 33" BFG A/Ts under my 88 YJ.

If your on the road alot with it and just a weekend wheeler I would stick with a 1" BL or go with the 4" lift kit. The 2" shackle lift in the back would bother me alot. That would make your shackles 8" bolt to bolt
![]() I have also just never been a fan of the shackle reversal setup. Personal opinion I guess.

we run a shacle reverse setup on our 4cyl 5spd (stock sptings) and standard shackle setup on our 6cyl automatic (2.5" lift) and i see no difference between the two but maybe its because my 6cyl has an OME kit

Every Jeep in our club with a shackle reversal kit in the front get horrible flex compared to the std. set-up. Just FYI, We put Brandon_YJ's 1" lift boomerangs on stock leafs and get awsome flex. I installed TJ flares and cut out the wheel well openings. It fits 32" AT's and fleexes good.

I think that a shackle reversal setup is interesting, and could be very useful on a DD Jeep that sees alot of highway/freeway use.
But I am adverse to installing one just to gain a little more lift - and there is no guarantee that you actually will recieve the lift that you desire from it. For $100 more you can get a 4" Rough Country lift kit, then sell your current stuff to recoup costs. There's a chance you won't need an SYE with the 4"RC lift, but with a shackle reversal chances are very good that you will need a longer driveshaft. That's just my thoughts on the subject man.

This is an older thread, but should answer your question in more depth than I have time to right now, as well as others you might have when it comes to an SRS.

I sold my MORE Shackle Reversal to my friend after I decided not to use it. and we both have RE 4.5in XD Lifts .
Pros: 1in wheel base strech, good ride on road , better aproach angle Cons, Need new driveshaft , loose wheel travel ( I ramp 864 on a 22* ramp he does 57x*) if you drive the jeep alot and dont wheel often go for it if you wheel alot do do it everyone I know with a SR wishes they never did it

I would have typed out a lengthy post but being a little on the intoxicated side I didn't want to screw up and tell you the wrong thing. ![]()

shackle reversal doesn't affect flex at all, front end is better for approaching rocks and things, and you can ram stuff harder and not have to worry about bending your springs or invert shackles against rocks, its better for offroad, and rides better, if using non flat springs. needs longer travel driveshaft, the axle moves away front t-case on droop, the best way to do shackle reversal is to make it yourself drill a few holes in the frame for shackle mounts and make some mounts for the front, easy... the kits ive seen for yjs look horrible
