Restoration Project 1990 Yj Only 20,000kms Orig.
Hey everyone.
I just bought my first Jeep. 1990 YJ. She sat for over 10 years, had some work done and was driven for a year and now I have purchased her. She needs a bit of work before she makes it to the road, so I figured I would provide a picture journal. My intentions are to restore her to showroom condition, then worry about upgrades. The cabin is in mint condition, the motor runs beautifully, but there are a few cosmetic blemishes. The under body has also received a fair bit of surface rust, but I will be fixing that another day. So here she is: ![]() ![]() The paint was very oxidized so i decided to take a bit of wax to her. ![]() The difference is astounding. ![]() I then got excited by the pleasant weather and took her top off. It had only been removed once in her lifetime prior to this occasion. ![]() I then got around to finishing up her first coat of wax. By then it was pretty late... ![]() Next day, it was time to start trying to get her on the road. She needs: Rear brake job. (New shoes, drums, lines and hardware.) Repair to the frame. (A hole has rusted out.) Two front U Joints. Tires. (The factory tires are still on her with over 70% tread left, but they are weather cracked from sitting.) Tailpipe. (Has rusted out from the muffler back) Gas tubing. (From the nozzle to gas tank, theres a crack in the hose.) A fair bit of work. Brakes got taken care of and so did the new rims and tires! Old VS. New ![]() New Tires and Rims! ![]() A day well spent! ![]() Next update will be in the next few days when i make more progress! Thanks for looking. Please comment.

Well, it has really been ages since my last update. It was a long hard winter.
My attention had been focused elsewhere but I kept her as my daily driver. I didn't get stuck this winter, even with the harsh storms faced in Ottawa. (22 inch snow storms) Casualties of the winter include my rear sway bar, front driver side tire, and alot of the body. My rear axle is floating around and creates a really rough ride. Any minor bump in the road rocks the whole rig. My shocks are non existent and the only relief is being provided by my leaf springs. My tire managed to collect a screw and isn't repairable. The rust has not been attended to and has just eaten more of the body. So now that the negative is taken care of, I spent $2000 today on Jeep parts. Including a 2.5 inch lift kit, brake lines, u joints, ball joints, thermostat, steering damper, tie rod assembly, bushings, body mounts, shackles ect. In the last month I was able to finally get a frame I had purchased. (it was buried in snow) I delivered it to my Jeep Doctor who sand blasted and welded/reinforced everything. She is now ready for primer. Optomistically, all my parts will arrive, the frame will be finished, and the swap will be completed within the month! I will have a picture update as they become available! |

Now long overdue is really long overdue. This swap got completed almost 2 years ago. The winter took a toll on it. The frame was coated, suspension and front end were all brand new; but after winter the rust had already started on the surface.
So here is how she stood: |

I'm not a fan of the diamond plate, but it's coming about really well! It's amazing how winter really takes a toll on old cars, makes me grateful for just having two seasons here: dry and REALLY wet.
