i'm using a bearing puller. it slides in under the bearing ,then presses the carrier and lifts the bearing off.

I took mine to a local machine shop. They pulled them off, then I took 'em home and made set-up berrings out of them, set up my gears and took the diff back to have the new berrings pressed on. Way easy

Do you have a picture or link to the type of puller you are using?

may be a stupid question, but do you use the bearing separator as a wedge between the carrier and the bearing and tighten the separator down?
