removing hp dana 30 differential

I need some help. I'm trying to remove the differential in my 87 yj. I've removed the driver side axle and the passenger side outer shaft, but cant get the inner shaft out. I've read through different how to's, but cant figure it out. Apparently theres a c clip, but I can't find it. I even unbolted the ring gear from the carrier to give me some more looking room. It's the factory carrier with a lunchbox locker if that changes anything.

It should just pull right out. My 92 did not have a c-clip. Try to spin it when pulling

Spray brake clean around the bearings to loosen the suction of the grease. a pry bar helps too

Getting the carrier apart from the housing isn't the problem, it's getting the inner axle out of the carrier that's the problem. If it wasn't for the axle being stuck in, the carrier would just fall out. I've tried beating and prying the axle out, but no luck. It has about an inch of back and forth playand it feels like there's a c clip holding it, but I can't see where one is. Anyone have suggestions or pictures of where to look. I'm just trying to get the locker out of it.

Mine slid right out no issues. Maybe the axle is twisted on its splines. I actually grabbed it through the CAD access cover and it just slid out.

Sent from underneath my Jeep

I have heard of some D30 middle shaft having c clips in the carrier. remove the cross pin so you can push the axle inward far enough to see if there is one on there.

I'm curious, why are you taking the locker out?

The cross pin would definitely need to be removed to access any c-clip if one is present. I've been told that some of the factories installed c-clips to prevent the inner shaft from moving during assembly.

As for how to remove the cross pin, if it has 4.10 gears the ring has to be unbolted first and moved to the side as best you can with the carrier installed.

On my 87 I just pushed axle all the way in and clip was visible and easily pulled right out but it had 3:07 gears.

If you have a lunchbox style locker, it eliminates the use of a c-clip. I don't think that is your issue.

There is no c clips in the d30. They're held in by the unit bearing
