Rear driveshaft U joint question

1988 YJ. The u joint in the rear drive shaft at the transfer case has no straps for removal/installation. Whats the best way to go about getting it off? Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Please fill out your "Profile" so we can help you quicker and with less questions and assumptions.

Assuming your Jeep is "stock" you'll need to remove the 4 bolts holding the two straps that secure your drive shaft to the rear differential.
Once removed lower the end of the drive hsaft down and simply slide it out of the tcase.
You'll need to have a catch pan handy as some tcase oil will leak out. Not much, just some.
You'll now need to remove the 4 "C" clips that secure the front u-joint bearing caps and then remove the bearing caps and bad u-joint.

You have to remove the axle end first and then slide it out of the tcase. They you can use a bench vice or socket with hammer to press the U joints out.

Search for u joint replacment. there are several good writeups.
