Rear drive shaft help...what do I need to finish the job?

This is what the rear drive shaft looked like when I bought the Jeep. One of the PO's started a lift and simply unhooked the drive shaft.

I'm finding it hard to find any driveline diagrams for an '87 YJ and would appreciate any help on what parts I need to complete the job.

Also, the PO got ahead of himself and removed the front drive shaft while he did nothing to the front suspension. What parts will I need to complete the front driveline? Pics below:

Front: all you need is a strap kit, most parts stores will have it. You need four straps.

Rear: you should be able just to slide the shaft back onto the splines(it's made to just slide in on the splines and slide in and out when needed) and hook the other end up to the rear axle...

Thanks.

I slid the shaft back onto the spline and did a quick check and the angles looked correct. I went down the street for a slow test drive and on my way back something came out of whack. I could only get up to a few mphs and there was a horrible wobble going on. I towed the Jeep back to the house and it wobbled horribly all the way back home. I was unable to take a look as it is just too late tonight.

Thoughts?

There is no lift at all. I wanted to get it back to stock specs and then give it a lift some day down the road.

Have you checked all of the fluids? At least some of the fluid would've leaked out of the transfer case when the PO removed the rear driveshaft. And how are the U-joints? With a truck that's new to you, you have to assume the PO didn't have a clue what he was doing so you have to check EVERYTHING. I've learned this the hard way lol.

I checked the fluid levels and they were fine as of Sunday. I need to take a closer look at the u-joints.

Any other problem areas that could be causing a extreme wobble at very low speeds?

How long was it sitting? Could the tires have developed a flat spot? Can you isolate the 'wobble' to a specific area (front, rear, left side, etc)?

The Jeep sits pretty level and I don't think it could have been the tires as the ride was fairly smooth for the first two hundred yards or so. The wobble seems to be coming from the rear to rear/middle. I'll have to take a closer look tomorrow when I get a chance.

Did you get the caps of the U joint installed into the little tabs on the yoke?

Stopped by and took a look at the rear driveline. The rear driveline angle shifted a bit and is out of whack. Where can I find a diagram of the proper angles for a stock set up? Also, how do I keep the axle from rotating and changing the drive shaft angle?

EDIT: I found this picture off of another thread. It is not my set up but this is what my angles looked like as of this morning.

Could the culprit be that my perches are not welded on thus allowing the axle to rotate? I did not weld them because I thought I could take it for a very short and slow test drive. I guess I was pretty dumb and very wrong.

Yeah I think that would do it! We're all guilty of doing something stupid at one point or another so don't feel too bad. In fact there is probably some threads on here about dumb mistakes. Weld 'em up and try it again. Good luck!

The rear should be 2 degrees down compared to the output of the transfer case.

You didnt weld the perches? That is funny, I wanted to tried it one time for another reason. But I didnt ...

Thanks for all the help.

I'm glad you didn't try it. Please feel free to tell the story to others about the idiot that didn't weld them for a test drive and ended up disconnecting and towing the Jeep home.
