Rear cross member repair

Over the course of the last 10 days my oldest son has rear ended me twice. First time bent the crap out of the tail gate and put a slight dent in rear cross member. He couldn't get stopped in the mud, no big deal.
Today we were leaving town and some idiot decided to make a left turn, suddenly and no turn signal. I stopped but my son hit me again, this time bending the rear cross member even more.
How difficult is it to remove these and/or change out? Our rigs are nothing but play toys. It doesn't bother me to much, but my son feels compelled to fix it properly- since he did it.

If it's not broke- modify it, so it won't break

You will have to drop the fuel tank as that's what holds the back of the skid plate up. I believe that they are welded on so you will have to cut the old one off and then weld in the new one. Good time to build a heavier duty one though.

Sounds like he really wants to be the lead dog, is he tired of the view? ....

Thanks for the links on a replacement part. I don't know if he's tired of the view or not, but after two times he started hanging way back. Lol

If you can weld make your own. All you need is some c4 channel a grinder and a welder. And it's a hell of a lot stronger.

Check my build thread. I have some information there.

Sent from my phone because I'm doing something "more important"

Current Project: None... I disgust myself.

I used 2x4x.125" tube for mine, fillet welded to the frame.
