Air shocks are excellent as long as you're not driving on the highway or doing any extended desert running at high speeds.
Coilovers are better than coils/shocks in almost every way, other than maintenance. Coilovers take up less room and because of this, give you better fab flexibility. Less things to hang up on underneath. the combo of the spring/shock mount in one provides greater strength. Thata just a few of the advantages. My favs would go coilovers, then air, then coils/shocks and then 1/4 ellipticals.

i have stcok XJ coils that i used. i wanted a 4-link on a budget so i fabbed everything my self, well except for the hiems. i would of loved to do air shocks but they where out of the budget. so the biggest question is how much do you have and what axle ( axles ) you using.
some say ( and i agree ) to do all the brackets once with the axle you want to use. so the first question is are the axles you welding all the tabs and brackets to the ones you want for a while. i would search around on pirate, alot of 4-link build's going on there now and im sure you can get some good ideas buy just veiwing other builds. heres a few of mine. heres some drivway shots and one after i twisted the front yoke off, jason.

I am going to go with the 8.8 rear and 44 front I think.May stay with the 30 front for now as I have already built it up. I'm thinking 8-10" inch stretch rear and 4" or so front stretch. Also going to go with full Hyd.steering.

Getin closer to the build. I will be going with a 44 /chromealloy front and the 8.8 rear.Looks like 5 " stretch front and 7" rear. 5.13 gears, 42" Irocs,3 or 4 speed Atlas. 4 link rear and 3 link front. Will be under the knife in the next month or so.

I like the way your going, but like Jason said above, have enuf axle. 42's on a 44, and 8.8 is asking for trouble. Let alone full hydro steering, 5.13's, a four speed Atlas, and the what-not.
I *think* your asking too much of them. But hell, give it a shot. Oh, and take pics.

Sorry but as stated above those axles will never last with 42's. Anything above 38's and you should be running 1 tons. I had a hard time keeping my front 3/4 ton 44 going on 36's. That was with chromos ,detroit, warn premiums, and 5.13's.
