R12 recharge

My 92 is low on freon, bought a can of r12 today for $12
Is one can usually enough?
It's a 12 ounce can. I know i need it, can see bubbles in the sight glass.

when filling ac, i ususally use a gauge and if there isn't one availiable i empty the system and fill with the correct amount recomended. i feel better that way instead of guessing.

how'd you get R12? I thought all that we could get now was the new 134A.

Nope, they're around, but the price varies. http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=r12+freon+12oz&hl=en&btnG=Search

The true R12 refrigerant can only be purchased by licensed heat and air people, and they must have specialized recovery equipment. The cost around here is about $40 a lb. All the AC people that I have spoken with also say that the new refrigerant is much more corrosive and will eat up the seals with in a couple of years. I have also been told that you can use a product called "hotshot" and it is compatible with R12 but you must have a license to get it also.
