Questions about carb and vacuum lines

OK so I know that jeeps are not good on gas no surprise there but I'm sure my jeep is capable of more mileage tan its getting right now. By my estimates I'm getting about 6mpg. I also am at stock height and running 31's. My engine has about 230000km on. I was planning on checking the vacuum lines because I already found one leak. I also have the carter carb on it.

With an engine that has that many kms on it I think there may be some problems with the computer/carb so I'm planning on nuttering the jeep and installing a weber. When I do the install I will prob just use new vac lines for the carb I believe there are 4? Do you think this will most likely solve my problem and is the best solution instead of wasting my time with the carter? Also someone told me to plug vac leaks I should get some vac line and put a small screw in the end anyone have experience with that?

Golf tee's make great vacuum line pluggers.

Elvis did a really good writeup with how to install the carb and it has a diagram of the vacuum lines that you can keep.

Good luck

Many answers to many questions. I used this site to get my Carter carbed engine Nuttered and de-smogged. Tons of great info. Vacuum line routing, the works...

x2 on Burnerman's link. Excellent site, not just for getting things to stock but understanding what you can remove and why.

I'm nuttered with a MC2100, and I still run vac lines to the charcoal canister and egr through ported vacuum at the CTO valve. It's only a few vac lines and works great. I can find the diagram I used, if you want.

not to hijack, but do the 10" and 4" vacuum switches need to be connected? If so, how are they routed to?

And furthermore here's the vacuum line schematic's of the individual systems. Once Nuttered all the stuff on the far left is gone.
I'm not trying to be a d**k but you need to read that whole site to figure things out. That's what I did. It can get confusing but it's all there.

Please excuse me for throwing in my opinion here as well, but another thing to NOT do is waste your money on a carb. There is nothing wrong with the carter except the Emissions Stepper and 20 years of neglect.

Contrary to the Nutter instructions, put the stepper needles half way if you want fuel economy. Get a GOOD quality Carb Kit and also replace the Float! The BBD Carter is probably one of THE most trouble free and reliable carbs ever built. It originated back in the 60's on 318 Mopar V8 engines and a lot of them are still running the original carb!
