i've got a 91 yj and my headlights will go on and off when i'm driving at night. the hazards, brake, running, and instrument panel lights still work. i have kept my fog lights off for a couple of months because one blew out, so i don't know yet if they would stay on. any suggestions or should i take it to be tested?
hmmm, now thats an interesting problem. Have you messed with any of the wiring recently? like installed any new electrical components? (anywhere in the Jeep) like an alarm, Cb, stereo anything like that? If so, you (or the installer if it was done by someone else) might have accidently spliced into something they shouldn't have. let me know if anything was put in recently so I can get a better Idea of what you should look at.

as far as i know, nothing has been done recently. the last time anyone has messed with any wiring was when my mom cut the wires that were connected to the inside lights because they stayed on when she would take the doors off, but she did that years ago.
I had an 88 yj that did that (my first jeep...ahhhh, memories...). I feel for ya - pretty darn scary when you're driving down a dark road (or trail) and your suddenly blind, huh?
You might want to check the connectors that plug into the back of the halogen lights. I don't know where your at, but I'm from Cleveland and we get pretty harsh winters. Mine had a lot of corrosion on them from road salt and it interfered with the connection. A little work with some steel wool and/or a wire brush solved the problem right away. Hope this helps...

Along with checking the hi/lo beam switch, you may want to replace the main head light switch. Had the head light switch on my truck go out once, did the same thing. The marker and dash lights will still work because there are two different positions on the switch. Good luck

While you are cleaning the headlights, make sure you use some dielectric grease on all the contacts. Winter salt and snow and dirt plays havoc with electrical connections! Use it also on your sparkplugs as well .. and anywhere else you feel like using it.
