Now I know that some of you guys have bought this:
http://www.quadratec.com/products/12501_00_07.htm
Is this any good? Fit properly? How difficult is swapping in the wiper mechanism? Also need a new windshield seal (and the cowl seal is due for replacement), but anything else I would need (sans paint)?

Cannot vouch for quality but I would plan to get new hardware for it. does if come with the little threaded plates behind the hinge holes?

yes, it is ready to be painted, and glass installed. both my windshields came from Qtec and both fit perfectly. the threaded steel plates are already there. you have to pop the ball joint from the wiper assembly anyway so fitting the linkage in there is not a problem. the only thing it does not have are the holes where the VIN plate rivet to, I just re-drilled the VIN plate to mount via the wiper motor screws.

Cool. I've got a pop-riveter to take care of the VIN tag. I'll order the frame and seals then. Just too many holes and too much rust on mine to justify fixing it.

Yeah, I bought that. It's the thinnist sheet metal I have seen on a body part. I would not buy it again. It does fit OK, and is shaped ok, but made really poorly. One of the inside 'nut straps' broke free and I had drill a 1" hole behind the upper corner mount to get a finger and tools in there to fix it. That 1" hole is now covered up by the upper bar mount. I learned there is a reason the others cost closer to $250.

I'm sure most of the aftermarket windshields are crappy. Your best bet would to try and find one in a salvage yard.

Just did a search for "windshield frame" on Ebay motors and there are several on there, some with glass. I got a good used on off Ebay a couple years ago with new glass, wiper arms and linkage for about $250 shipped.

I think that fixing mine might be cheaper . Lots of cutting and welding and grinding though. There's rusted-out holes in the top from a light bar that used to be on it, and I had to cut holes in the bottom to get a torch behind the hinge bolts. And there's a decent rock ding under the windshield.
I was looking for the easy-way-out I suppose.
Now I'm looking for my welding mask.
Thanks JeeperDon, for ruining everything .

But you said that yours came from Q-tec? The one I linked to is the only one I can find there....

I think I made a mistake. I just looked through my Q-Tec purchase history and do not see the windshield frame. I know I paid about that price, but it may have been from 4WD Hdw, which is the other place I buy from on occasion. I did see that I bought a $99 fender from q-tec a yr ago, and that was ok for quality, better than the windshield, would buy the fender again. So, sorry for any hoopla, good luck with which ever one you get.

Quadratec and 4wd Hardware probably import them from the same manufacturer. How many places in Taiwan stamp YJ parts? I'm guessing just one. I emailed them about the quality. 4wd doesn't seem to sell them anymore; checked their site and catalog, only TJ frames that are (imported). ACME sells the same thing Q-tec has: http://www.acmejeepparts.com/products/12501_00_07.htm (why is their site exactly like Q-tec's?). JCW's got this "heavy gauge" one for $20 more: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/I...17089910357663
What are your guys' opinions on fiberglass windshield frames? I'm a little concerned about their integrity in a rollover, but never having to worry about rusting again would be nice. Are these mostly for Jeeps with full cages?
