Putting a TJ D30 in a YJ

Had been planning to put TJ axles in my D30 to get the bigger u-joints and get rid of the disconnect but I ran across a complete D30 from a TJ with the right gear ratio. I can handle the fab work (I work in a welding shop) but I am wondering if I will get into any trouble with the tierod or drag link? Anybody done this and am I missing something?

Just swap the shafts, that's a whole lot of work for a weaker axle. The TJ is low pinion VS the YJ's high pinion.

Thanks for pointing that out! Didn't think about the low and high pinion deal. Will go back to the axle swop. Well it seemed like a good idea. Thanks.

If you must/still want to rid yourself of the vacuum disco housing, you still can.

First take some accurate length & rotational measurements, then.....remove the entire axle and cut the passenger side tube so that you have ~5" coming out of the diff housing, and again so that you have ~5" coming out of the inner C. At this point you won't have a disco housing any more.

Then use some 3"x1/2" wall (or was that 1/4" wall?) DOM and cut it to length so that you sleeve the axle tube. If you wish - drill the tube so that you can plug weld it. Press it in place if you need to, ensuring that the inner C's are at the same rotational angles & then weld it in place at each end.

Add a new spring perch & lower shock mount & you're back in business.
