Pros/Cons of changing wheel backspacing and offsetting

Can someone elaborate on all the effects changing BS and offset have on the vehicle?

It would seem that the greater the offset, the more stress is put on the hub, but beyond that I don't know if there are any other effects (aside from the obvious tire fitment/rubbing at full steer changes)

I'm planning on getting some 16x7 alloys and 32 or 33 x 9.5 (probably the metric equivalent) tires, but I'd like to widen the stance of the Jeep a bit too. Any other ways to do this would be awesome, perhaps a set of axles I can find cheap that fit easy under a YJ and are just a bit wider, I don't think i want a full width axle though.

Thanks a lot guys
Sean

you can get a 1-1.5 inch spacer, more than tht though and i would just get more backspacing on the wheels

Why not an 8" rim with a 10.5" wide tire??? People have been running 3.75" and 4" back spacing for years with no issues.

unsprung weight.

I crunched the numbers and figured out that a few good MT tires in the 32 or 33 x 9.5 size paired with the right alloy rim weigh 4-10lbs less per wheel than stock tires and stock wheels. I like my fuel economy (20-21mpg city or highway) with my 4.0, and I want to go larger, but this is my daily driver as well not just a trail rig, and Soft 8s and 12.5" wide 33 MTs weigh something like 40lbs more per wheel than stock, which is a large reason people feel such huge power loss and fuel economy loss when they lift a Wrangler. That's an extra 160lbs of rotational mass on the driveline, which is nuts!

If I can keep the weight of the new 32s or 33s at or below stock weight, then I'll have no power loss due to the driveline. The only thing I'd have to watch would be the diff ratios, and after I get the new wheels I'll see if I need to change those as well.
