project "keep road worthy"

ok these are the ones i need help with i knew that the dash (below) was rotted but i didn't expect it would be so bad underneath the windshield and yes i broke a windshield hinge taking off the windshield

not sure wha i'm gonna do about this it seems to be breaking futher i may have to buy a new fender?

my floor pan

my messy engine still working on cleaning it up also i'm gonna move the fuel regulator to after the filter (give me a break i'm new at this)

yes i know the vacuum advance isn't hooked up

my carb still trying to get info on where to hook up the egr? can't find a spot

and last but not least the rear of the drivers side frame that needs repair already did major repairs to the front of the frame it was rotted so bad around the steering box that it cracked the frame i got another frame (bent) and i cut the front of it off, cut the front off of mine in front of the shock mounts welded it inside and out and fishplated it (well i didn't do it one of my buddies did) but i helped lol

ok but to recap my questions right now are

1: what should i do about the rot under the windshield

2: should i get someone to weld the fender or replace it

3: what should i hook to the vacuum advance and where the heck can i put the egr valve.

I'v already read the post about repairing the back of the frame so i'm good on that

btw i'v got a tip for all of you don't buy a jeep on ebay for too much with minimal pictures and not be able to pick it up for another 6 months

sorry for the click =-/ when i previewed it it showed the pics dunno how to fix

click free

1. you could try just welding in some sheet metal. Usually works and if its ugly no one is going to see it anyways.

2. If you cant find a cheap fender (and you usually can. here or craigslist0 Just weld it up grind it flat sand and paint and no one will ever know.

3. Get out a vacuum gauge and check for ported vacuum. Ported vacuum is non existent at idle and increases as the rpms go up. Attach the distrib advance to a ported vacuum. From what i understand the closer to the throttle the better. I cant help you with the egr. If you cant come up with a port you can always just stick a small filter on it. (i believe)

How much did you pay for it if you don't mind?

Wow, that looks like a yankee jeep.
All our jeeps end up looking like that around here unless it is well taken care of.

1300 isnt bad for that. Just think. If the carb came with it then you only paid 1000 for the jeep. Will be fun to fix too..

i'v just put the carb on the list of stuff i'v done to it is wires, plugs, distributor cap, rotor, thermostat, all the front brake lines, the brake line that goes to the rear, master cylinder, the junction box under the master cylinder ( dealer item only) let me think..... what else battery, coil, frame in front of shock mounts, headlight switch, mechanical tempature gauge, exhaust from headers to cat, fuel pressure regulator, water neck (make sure that the thermostat is in place all the way before tightening) new front shocks, fuel filter, pcv valve ( not sure if i'm supposed to count little stuff like this though) oh yeah alternator, belt ( needs to be changed again) i really can't think of anything else right now i think that pretty much completes it

The things that i need to get done in the immeditate future is i need a new rear yoke one of the tabs that holds the ujoint broke therefore one of the caps fell off ( cap fall off, u joint come out of yoke driveshaft make horrable noise pretty bad overall) after i pulled the driveshaft off i tried moving it in 4wd and my transfer case is screwed up it the front makes a worse noise then the driveshaft banging around i really bad grinding noise but it will move anyways back on what i need to do obviously i need to get the metel under the windshield fixed before i can drive it i need to get another windshield frame (this one has a rather large 5 inch hole in it) and i need to get the rear frame fixed

oh yeah i also put 2 tie rods (short ends) one they didn't even have in the state they would have to order it and i didn't feel like spending $100+ on the long one at the time

i have a question what should i get a seatbelt from the one for the drivers side where it buckle it rotted and stopped working i was buckling it into the pass side but i got tired of that i found a humvee seatbelt and buckle laying around and tried hooking that up and it's too short ( i busted the old buckle taking it off)

no i don't want to take the one off of the pass side either

Yeah, you can swap it in. Gotta swap in everything - electrical, fuel pump, manifolds, etc., to go with it.

But really...if your 4.2 runs well (with only a few minor things to fix), and you've got a good carb (which you do), why not work on the body/frame rust issues first? That's going to be the bulk of the work. You can still take the spare engines since they're free, and worry about them later.

Who knows, you might just fall in love with the 4.2 like some of the rest of us have

but on that note i know you gain h.p. but do you lose any torque? or do you gain any torque? i havn't heard what the specs are on the engine after the swap
