Project "Jevy"

Well guys here we go. First of all this is my first Jeep. And let me tell you, I am friggin excited like you wouldn't believe! Definitely got the Jeep "Ra-Tard" syndrome. I think I tell everyone within my view about everything I've even thought about, let alone done to this thing. I've wanted one ever since I could drive, and never had the opportunity. Then along came children, (4 beautiful ones to be exact) so then I never had the funds for a cool vehicle. Let alone, once you have more than two, you need third row seats.

BUT!!! This year's taxes marked "A New Revelation!" And the plan was in effect LONG before the taxes ever got filed. I was looking and researching Jeeps to see what was out there and available. And I also did a lot of research on parts and prices, so that when I did find a prospect I would at least have a general idea what it was going to cost to get it climbing over something. Or so I thought. If your looking for a project now, and you think you have it figured out, that you can get it running for a certain price, QUADRUPLE IT! and that will get you a bit closer to the actual amount. I think there going to build a new AutoZone across from my house after this build.

OK, so on to the good stuff. I was looking and searching, then I asked and older 'redneck' guy that I know if he knew where there were any old jeeps for sale, that needed to be fixed up. He tells me he knows where there is an 'old hunt'n buggy' as he put it. I said what the hell is a 'hunt'n buggy'? He says you know drive it in the field and in the woods to go 'hunt'n'. It's in pretty rough shape though. So I asked "How much?" He made the call and it was $1,000 bucks. I thought oh crap, must be a huge heap of rust-dust, cause I've been shopping around for a while. But, I didn't want to hurt his feelings cause he put in some effort to help me out, so I told him I'd like to go take a look at it after work. (I didn't have anything to do anyway). It was beyond dark when we got there, but I keep a couple LED flashlights in the truck, and the headlights. As we were heading out into a field of private stash junk cars that were used for parts for a place that repairs and sells used cars, I could see the Jeep in the trees. Not out for sale, couldn't see it from the road, and inside a locked, gated compound where they fix cars. And this looked like a huge piece of crap all multicolored and what not. The first thing I see is 35" Procomp M/T's on rockcrawler wheels. Then I started looking around, the frame didn't have any rust, and has been repainted. The 'multicolored' look is primer. The whole interior is rhinolined including the rollbar. There is a benchseat bolted and welded in. The windshield is broken. The rear bumper is a heavy duty rockcrawling bumper with step. There is an old Chamoion 7500lbs winch in the front. all the fender flares and misc stuff are laying in the back, along with and old GM starter. WAIT!! GM starter??? I immediately looked at the side pipes sticking out noticing dual exhaust. and went around to open hood. And the "Jevy" was born!

They told me this thing has been out there for a least a year or so. I took some gas, a jump box, some cables, some starter fluid out to the field and this friggin thing STARTED!!! So I made the call, went and purchased the Title, and home she came...

Thats a nice new shiny Edelbrock carb! Good luck with those wires, I suggest cutting them all and pulling all of them out then start from square 1.

I was looking at the wiring all cobbled up under the hood, so I decided to just have a look, and try to clean them up a little...
then that led to this...

and plenty of these...

And you get to this...

Good score!
Is it a 350?
700r4 tranny? Or TH400 etc?
Transfer case?
Axles?
I say you got a hell of a deal, well done
The wiring isnt as bad as it looks. I suggest getting an Alladata account (ALLDATAdiy.com :: Leading Source of Diagnostic and Repair Information) for the YJ and for the donor rig (if you know what that was).
Everyone gets freaked at wiring for no reason, just take your time and it will work itself out.

oh it gets better...

I ordered a universal 21 circuit Hot Rod wiring kit from Home of EZ Wiring, and it all started to come together...
It was only like $180 bucks, so Painless can Suck it!!! Awesome kit man, all the wires are labeled every 5", came with gm headlight plugs, fuse block all prewired, flashers, and a bunch on extra circuits for acc.

I'm not 100% sure on the motor, but they told me it was a 350, so far I haven't been able to see the numbers on the back of the block. I could use some help in that dept. if someone's got some. The tranny is a TH350, just judged by the shape of the oil pan. One clipped corner. The transfer case is the original (i think) NP231j. The axles are dana 30 in front and dana 35 in the rear.

I DO NOT have a front driveshaft, and no transfer case shifter. I have had it running, and we've taken it around the subdivision. I'm sure the neighbors are really impressed with me... SBC with headers, 3 feet of exhaust pipe, and turnouts! No Mufflers, No cats. Sounds like a Monster Truck.
