Well, well, well....Its about time you started this thread. I say this, and I started before you and haven't started my frame off thread yet. Maybe after I get back from vacation I'll get started. Anyways....lookin real nice.

Don't get too upset but I went ahead and got some aluminum for the dash and I might start a little trimming and cutting here and there. No rush or anything I just happened to be driving by and stopped in and picked some up. I have plenty of left over hinge material so we are good there. I might start shopping around for fasteners about mid to late december to see who's got the stuff we need.

By the way...Love the pics!!!

lookin good todd!
i did 2 bare frame rebuilds on my junk.....so if you need any tips, pointers, suppliers, someone to yell at @2am, gimme a shout, been there and done it mate!
i didnt know about jf on the 1st rebuild, so no pics, but if you look at the 4.3 swap thread i made, i started from a bare frame aswell, so may save you a few headaches, i dunno...
there are a few things i would have done differently, the atlas being one. but $$ were low, aswell as my patience level, so i had to fight with it afterwards.
i ran all new brake lines the first time round, but new fuel lines would be a good idea while everything is off aswell. try to run the intank fuel pump, last longer and are cheaper. i put a chevy pump into the yj tank, so it can be done!
skip the por15 crap, i used it the 1st time ( the whole system, before anyone starts flaming me)....rustoleum all the way for me now

shoot me a pm if ye need anything.
good luck, and keep up the good work!
martin
ps, do not keep track of the money you put into it, it will drive you nuts mate!

That's fine, you just let know when you need some money!!!! Things have been coming together lately so we might be on schedule for the first of the year.

Hope you are having a great time on vacation!!!! Be safe!!!!

Thanks Martin. I am sure I will have some questions throughout this project. Well, I gave the project a 2 year window so I should be able to get it done within that time so I shouldn't feel pressured to hurry anything. I thought that you used a Chevy "in-tank" fuel pump but wasn't sure. I will look into all of that as the project gets closer to that stage. I am going to replace all of the brake lines and fuel lines since I have it stripped down to the frame. I am looking into getting new shocks (I have BDS shocks for their 3.5" lift now) and I think I may go with the Bilstein 5150's but I need to figure out which range I will need. I may have a question or two about this later on.

How are making out in San Fran??????

Todd

Wow, I'm doing a rebuild from the chassis up also, just got the tub off yesterday. This is my first time and I have no idea what I'm doing. The only thing I've had come off easy so far was the hood...lol. All my body mount bolts but one either twisted off or the nut broke loose. I don't have enough fingers or toes to count the number of bolts and screws I need to drill out and tap. I keep asking myself too.. "Why am I doing this"...lol I know the end result will be worth it.

So, Hope you all don't mind the questions that you may have answerd a 1000 times already....

Good luck on your rebuild

Thanks. Yeah the body mount bolts all sucked on mine. 3 broke off and I think 2 the nuts started turning, the rest came off fine. There will be alot of drilling and tapping in a project like this!!!!!

Good luck with your project and as always---PICS are GOOD!!!!!

Good luck with the buildup, I'm sure it will turn out great. After doing 1 frame up build I always swore never again.

tank, thanks for posting your project rebuild. Can't wait to see the finished product.

What happened to all the wiring and how easy/difficult was it to remove? Was the body tub difficult to remove?

If I were to do a project like this, I anticipate that the engine and dash wiring would be my trouble spots. :/

And then, of course, finding a place to reinstall all the firewall components. I'd beef up the entire steering assembly if I were you. I know you left the bottom linkage alone, but for what you plan on doing, it just seems better to upgrade to heavy duty components.

Anyhoo, keep up the good work and keep us posted!
