Problems filling gas tank

Hi:
I am having a terribly problem each time I try to fill up with gas - takes forever and gas back splashes all through the process. I usually have better luck turning the nozzle to the side and filling real real slow???

Is this a common problem??? Are there any good fixes???? For a 15 gal tank, takes 3 times as long as to fill my 22 gal truck!!!!

Thanks
Robert

I have the same problem, I think it has been talked about before but I can't find the thread.

But I would like to know too!

did you check the filler hose that goes from the tank to the filler neck?

I know when I did my 15 to 20 gallon tank mod I had it bent a bit and I was getting a splash back. Other than that I can't think of what to do, sorry I can't help you guys better

just a quick FYI... the dealer cannot get you a replacement filler or vent hose for your fuel filler/tank connection....

I was thinking it has to be something to do with the presure in the tank since the pump thinks the tank is full when its not. I am going to check my filler neck to see if there are any bends or dents gas can collect. Come on guys can some one help us out over here!

i had the same problem...15 minute fix. if you pull the filler housing out...and the piece of plastic that keeps dirt from getting under your jeep (the driver's side rear corner...at the bottem of the rear fender) you can access your gas tank filler hose and vent hose. the vent hose is the smaller one. if you disconnect the vent hose from the tank itself, you will notice that there is a hard piece of tube inside it. with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers/vice-grips...pull out that hard piece of tube..you don't need it....just make sure you reattach the flexible vent hose leading to the nozzle. chrysler put this longer vent tube in to make the pump "think" that the tank is full at 15 gallons...but in reality the tank will hold 20 gal. as soon as i did this i went to fill up (it's a good idea to do this on an empty tank). i clicked the gas handle so that it would pump by itself and just let watched it. at 19.4 gal it automatically shut off...w/ just a little bit of splashing back. it's been 6 days, and i haven't had to fill up yet, which is pretty good considering my setup. there is a post w/ a link to it, but haven't been able to find it. but it's a pretty easy mod...i couldn't be more pleased. pm me if you have any questions. good luck.
