I discovered the source of my powertrax failure. The carrier broke. Now I will do what I should have done the first time. An OX locker.
I was lucky that the fracture was "smile" shaped on both sides. That kept it together for the drive home.

i just welded my spiders in my 8.8. Just the same as a spool and mine is a DD with 31s. Never once had a problem.
