power problem

i got a big problem. i had a bad alternator so i thought replaced it and put a new battery in. i started it up and realized the battery gauge was reading 8 so i let it run for a while and the battery went dead what could be the problem here also the blinkers are not workin and the windshield wipers. YOUR THOUGHTS MUCH APPRICEATED!!!!!!!!!!!

Could you have reversed the wires by chance?
